Thought for the day…

Thought for the day…sometimes my brain just doesn’t work, and this is normal. I am not sure if I am happy with this statement…knowing that my brain being too exhausted to think is “normal”, but it is. We will all have a moment where our thinking cap just isn’t moving as quick as we want it to. Why is this important to understand?

First is that it is important to know that this is a sign of compassion fatigue. You are giving so much of yourself that your brain is showing you a need for self care and a need to slow down a bit. How? take some time for you (even if it means hiding in the toilet) and give up on some of the busy work that you think have to be done. School work can go one hour instead of two, or let the vacuuming go for the day. It is ok to let some things slide…everything does not have to be perfect.

Second thing is to share how you are feeling. Are a lot of things happening? Are you overwhelmed? Do you just not know why you feel like you do? Well find someone to Zoom, call, or shout at across your drive and tell them how you are feeling. Get it out. I often tell my children that if it is in you and you don’t let it out then it will hurt you…same goes for us adults, we need to get it out too.

Third reason it is important to understand why sometimes our brains just seem to go on vacation so that we don’t feel worse or more alone. I know that I need to stop myself so that I don’t get over frustrated at myself. So I put the remote in the fridge and ordered too many eggs for my delivery (kept forgetting I had already ordered!). These things are going to happen and I can laugh about them. We all have these moments…and it makes us human. We aren’t alone in this.

I know it seems like I am trying to simplify that brain fog, but while I cannot fix it all, and I cannot take all your stress away, knowing what is happening and purposefully doing something to help yourself through it will help. Get some time for yourself, know you aren’t alone and share your feelings…I do know it sounds simpler than it is, but it is also very very important because you matter
