Singing!

Therapeutic tool…sometimes the easiest tool to use is the one you have with you all the time, and that is your voice!
How do you use your voice as a therapeutic tool? First you keep it calm, clear and happy. The sound of a positive response from you will help to keep a trigger from happening and or making things worse. Stay calm in that storm and smile!
Next is by singing! I have had the recent experience to be in a very nervous situation, and then I heard something amazing, a nurse that was just gently singing as she did her paperwork. I immediately smiled and calmed down, I did not feel as frightened. If you are singing you are not yelling, shouting, or being scary, so hum or sing a tune (even if you think you can’t, your child wont notice that you don’t sound like Adele).
Last of all by using kind words. It is easy to be negative at others, especially when under stress. Try to show the children kindness by using kind words with them, others and yourself. Be kind to those around you even if you don’t “feel” like being kind. This will help them feel safer and lower their fear response!
I hope using your voice helps you as much as it does me.
